Subiaco Secure Two New Recruits

SUBIACO has completed an aggressive off-season recruitment campaign by securing former Collingwood VFL player Brett Mahoney and East Fremantle’s Conor Davidson for the upcoming WAFL season.

The pair Mahoney and Davidson will join new recruits Joey Daye, Callum Sinclair and Nathan Phillips who the Lions secured earlier this year.

Mahoney, a premiership player with the Murray Bushrangers in 2008 spent 2009 and 2010 on Collingwood’s VFL list before returning to country football, is expected to provide Subiaco with another ball winner in their midfield.

“He’s a strong body, he’s got good skills, he’s an inside player so he’s got

ball-winning ability. Very good skills and endurance so he’ll fit into

playing football on the bigger grounds at Perth,” Subiaco Football Manager

Luke Sanders said of Mahoney.

Davidson, who played 24-games across three seasons at Shark Park, arrives at Medibank after a two-month wait for his clearance from the Sharks to be complete.

“I am happy that the transfer has been finalised. It’s taken a few months to get cleared so it’s good to be around the boys, I’ve only got a short time to get to know everyone as we’ve got our first practice game next Friday,” Davidson said.

“I’ve been training on my own this preseason but I feel I have prepared as well as I could considering”

“I’ve been at East Fremantle for five years, I just felt I needed a bit of a change and I thought Subiaco was the best option for me.”

“I’m hoping to play 22 senior games, string a good season together and play finals with the boys.”

The addition of Mahoney and Davidson completes Subiaco’s activity at the draft table with the list now at capacity on the WAFL’s player points system and Sanders believes that this years draftees fit in well and all have a role to play.

“Joey Daye will play that half-back role so that will release one of our half-backs who can play in the midfield to do so and Joey can also play on a wing.

“You’ve got Callum Sinclair that will replace that rucking option.

“Brett Mahoney and Conor Davidson can both play in the midfield but also rest forward so they’ll provide a bit of flexibility in our midfield and forward options.”

All five of Subiaco’s off-season recruits are expected to be available for Subiaco’s first pre-season fixture against East Perth at Medibank Stadium on February 24.
