Esperance Break Drought

Kulin was this years host venue for the 2010 Great Southern Colts Carnival which is the oldest of its type in Australia with a proud history dating back to 1922.

Seven teams throughout the Great Southern region competed in a round robin, 2 x 20min halve competition on Saturday with the undeafed Esperance side reaching the Grand Final on Sunday.

Esperance's last carnival win was way back in 1986 and were keen to break the 24 year drought against a talented Upper Great Southern side. After an even 1st Quarter, Esperance took the accendancy in the 2nd and kicked away to a handy lead heading into the second half. Upper Great Southern fought back in the second half but it was all Esperance as they held on to win by 33 points.

The Goldfields side who were last years Grand Final winners finished in 5th position & played some exciting footy over the carnival. From last years winning side the likes of Brad Keast (colts), Seva Martin (reserves) & Scott Worthington (league) have taken the next step and playing some good footy for the Subiaco Football Club in 2010. We hope this transition continues with more young talented country footballers making the step up into the WAFL system in the years to come.
