Colts Coaches Report - RD 14 v Perth

After some disspointing performances in the last couple of weeks we were determined to put in an improved & more competitive showing against Perth who were coming off a bye and sitting 4th on the ladder.

A good start against Perth was vital if we were to have any chance of pushing Perth. After a tight tussle early some costly turnovers let Perth slip away to a 3 goal lead a quarter time. The second quarter we started to get on top, we controlled the quarter and dominated possession but we were unable to put score board pressure on Perth only kicking 1 goal for the quarter. The tide was changing as we kept Perth goalless and this was due to some hard work through the middle of the ground. Although still down by 13 points at the main break we were still in need of score board pressure and needed someone to stand up and take the game on. The message at half time was to continue our hard work in the second term and to keep the pressure on Perth.

Josh Horton-FrenchAfter the break Perth came out firing kicking the first couple of goals for the quarter putting us on the back foot. We were unable to have any influence on the score board as Perth dominated the third term kicking 5 goals to nothing.  Down by 7 goals the game opened up in the last quarter as Perth piled on another 5 goals to run out 57 point winners. Again another disspointing game but we can take some positives out of the first half and build on them in the next few weeks.

James Lee was our best finishing with 24 touches & 6 inside 50's playing through the middle. Andrew Diamond moved to the Half Back this week and his run and carry was fantastic, he finished with 23 touches and 10 marks. Luke Norriss had 26 touches and agian played well. Josh Horton-French played his first game for the club and finished with 13 touches and 2 goals. Josh is from the Warwick Greenwood Junior Football Club and has been through all of our development programs at the club and was great to see him take his opportunities on Saturday.
