Lions District Ready To Showcase Their Multicultural Talent At Cup
This Friday night 15th November Subiaco District will be represented once again in the West Coast Eagles Nic Naitanui Cup Competition. 8 teams from the 4 WAFC Wet Coast Eagles aligned Districts will play off in a round robin football carnival. The Subiaco District will also have representation through the Edmund Rice Lions, who will be participating in the tournament along side the Subiaco district team.
The West Coast Eagles have worked hard in partnership with their 4 WAFC aligned districts to provide opportunity and pathways in AFL for participants who are from cultural and linguistic backgrounds. There is huge Talent amongst these players and the competition has continued to grow and produce some future stars for the West Coast Eagles. Last Year Subiaco District reached the Final v Perth District who in a closely contested game managed to down the Lions in a late surge home. This year the Lions are hoping to produce another strong showing, and with the guidance of head coach Brad Stevenson who is a former premiership player with Subiaco FC, the lions will go in confident.
The team has seen many players come together from across the District’s aligned schools and community junior football clubs. Subiaco District Development Officer Matt Debarro had this to say. “It has been great watching the boys come together in training and showcase their skills, have a bit of fun and develop some new friendships. Stevo has been a fantastic coach, you can tell the boys really look up to him and they have learnt a lot in a short period of time already.”
We hope to see as many parents, friends and supporters down at Mineral Resources Park tomorrow night cheering the boys on. Games will commence at 5.00pm, with a sausage sizzle and refreshments available for all in attendance, as well as the chance to meet none other than Nic Naitanui himself. It is sure to be a big night of football fun for the whole community.
